Redefining Climate Leadership: Risks, Impacts and Opportunities in the Decisive Decade

The coming years until 2030 are decisive for keeping the 1.5°C temperature goal of the Paris Agreement within reach. Warming of 1.5°C, let alone beyond this limit, leads to increasing irreversible impacts, underscoring the importance of evaluating escalating risks and compounded impacts. Insufficient mitigation ambition and action will lead to additional limits to adaptation and mounting loss and damage. Meeting the 1.5°C goal requires global cooperation and leadership. To get on track, rapid, deep, and sustained transformation of the global economy, with ambitious and immediate action from governments, businesses, and individuals worldwide is required. The science shows that we have the tools to get there and some countries are already taking concrete steps in the right direction.

In light of these challenges, our North America office is proud to present an event that not only contributes to the scientific discourse but to multilateral discussions like the UN Secretary-General's Ambition Summit, the UNFCCC Paris Agreement Global Stocktake, and COP28. This event will have thought leaders and first movers debate the impact of the Ambition Summit on the international climate process and outline the necessary steps on the road to COP28 and beyond. Plus, get the latest science on how climate change is impacting our world, what we can expect in the future, and the key actions we can still take to peak global emissions by 2025 and limit warming to 1.5°C for a more liveable world.

The event will also highlight the importance of collective action in sharing knowledge and technology, assisting developing countries in their efforts to reduce emissions and adapt to the impacts of climate change, and contributing to discussions and pivotal decisions arising from multilateral processes. The presentation will be followed with an interactive panel discussion, where we will invite our audience, to engage, question, and collaborate.
