Climate disinformation and misinformation are everywhere. For every exciting technological advancement or policy victory that marks progress, there are thousands of people and organizations communicating climate denial, delay, and doom. Many of these messengers are in the direct employ of interests–primarily fossil fuel industries–hell-bent on maintaining the status quo and blocking progress at every turn. These interests are incredibly well-coordinated in their public communications and enjoy the support of seemingly limitless financial resources. So what is a single climate activist or small climate-forward organization to do? Fight back!
This panel of experts will provide specific guidance, grounded in real-world examples, on what terminology, strategies, and media to leverage to counter the lies and misdirection that have dominated public debates over climate action for the last four decades. The number of climate activists and climate-conscious citizens of the world is growing. With determination, coordination, and a good sense of how and when to make our case for maximum impact, we can sideline climate disinformation and accelerate progress.
