Every Climate Week NYC event starts with one idea

June 19, 2026 3 min read

More than 100,000 people. Over 1,000 events. Seven days. One city.

From global CEOs and government leaders to community organizers and local volunteers, Climate Week NYC brings together people from every corner of the climate movement.

But despite its scale, every event in our official program starts in exactly the same way: with one idea.

Every venue booking, sponsorship, and polished agenda traces back to one person, team, or organization deciding they have something worth sharing.

That's what makes Climate Week NYC unique – and how it’s grown into the world’s biggest and most dynamic climate platform. The week isn’t built by Climate Group hosting 1,000 events solo. It’s built by thousands of people bringing their expertise, perspectives, questions, and climate action to the table.

Some host major international convenings attracting policy makers and business leaders. Others organize grassroots workshops, walks, screenings, or volunteer activities. Together, they create conversations, partnerships, and moments that define the week.

These three examples show the full range of what's possible.

An idea to put oceans at the center of the climate conversation

When Plastic Odyssey hosted The Ocean Awakens, the team wanted to carve out a dedicated space for ocean action during Climate Week NYC.

Hosted aboard New York's historic Wavertree ship, the event brought together corporations, startups, non profits, scientists, and ocean advocates to explore how business, innovation, research, and storytelling can drive ocean protection and restoration.

The goal was to bring ocean issues into the heart of the climate agenda – and to shine a light on practical solutions to plastic pollution, marine conservation, and sustainable supply chains. And it worked.

That idea became a gathering point for hundreds of attendees and organizations working across the blue economy, putting ocean health firmly on the radar of corporate sustainability teams.

An idea to bring energy leaders together

The Québec Government Office in New York had a different objective.

As energy demand climbs around the world, the team brought together policy makers, utilities, clean energy developers, and industry leaders around one pressing question: how do we keep the lights on while keeping energy affordable, reliable, and clean?

Their event, The All-of-the-Above Fuel Mix: Meeting Demand and Ensuring Sustainability, opened conversations about energy security, renewable power, and economic competitiveness.

As a major producer and exporter of renewable hydropower, Québec had a real story to tell – one that grounded discussions on everything from diversifying clean energy sources and modernizing grids to the cross-sector partnerships needed to power the transition.

An idea to make climate action tangible

Not every Climate Week NYC event takes place on a stage.

At St. Vartan Park in Manhattan, the Arbor Day Foundation partnered with community organizations and volunteers to plant trees in a densely populated neighborhood that hadn't seen significant new planting for decades.

It was a simple idea, with a real, lasting impact. The newly planted trees now help clean the air, provide shade, cool the streets, and make the park a better place for those who live nearby.

Keynotes on climate policy, finance, and technology matter – but what sets the Climate Week NYC program apart is that it makes room for this kind of direct, local action, too. Not every contribution to the climate movement happens behind a podium.
