Climate anxiety (sometimes called eco-anxiety) is the distress, worry, fear, grief, or sense of helplessness that can arise from awareness of climate change and its impacts. It is not currently classified as a mental disorder on its own, but it can significantly affect well-being, especially when concerns feel overwhelming or constant.
Common experiences include:
Persistent worry about the future of the planet
Fear about extreme weather, biodiversity loss, or environmental collapse
Guilt about one's environmental impact
Anger at governments, corporations, or social inaction
Sadness or grief for ecosystems, species, or places that are changing
Difficulty concentrating, sleeping, or enjoying daily life because of climate concerns
