During our Climate Week NYC Opening Ceremony in 2023, California Governor Gavin Newsom and Attorney General Rob Bonta announced a landmark lawsuit against five of the world's largest oil companies, alleging they had misled the public about the risks of climate change.
Climate Week NYC provides a global platform for leaders from business, government, and civil society to make major announcements, demonstrate leadership, and bring important decisions to an influential international audience. In the years since, the case has survived repeated legal challenges, including an amended complaint and attempts by the defendants to have it dismissed.
