NEW YORK, NY — Nonprofit environmental law organization Earthjustice will join Climate Week NYC, hosted by the Climate Group, as a Policy Program Partner, bringing its expertise in climate policy solutions that cut pollution, expand access to clean energy, protect public health, and advance equity and justice.
“Climate Week NYC comes at a time when the stakes of the climate crisis have never been clearer, and the future of our planet as we know it is on the line — but we can act today to prevent the worst outcomes. We know what we have to do and we have the tools to do it,” said Jill Tauber, Earthjustice Vice President of Litigation for Climate and Energy. “We’re proud to be a part of such an important event to build momentum for bold and equitable climate solutions.”
During Climate Week NYC, Earthjustice will host a series of virtual events with climate justice champions who have the experience, the moral authority, the knowledge, and the vision to see a better way forward for people and the planet. Each of the panelists are inspiring others to claim their power and build a movement big and broad enough to achieve the systemic and unprecedented change that the world’s top climate scientists say is absolutely necessary to limit catastrophic warming.
Adam Lake, Head of Climate Week, Climate Group said, “We’re proud to be partnering with Earthjustice on our Policy program for this year. We have an opportunity to avoid the worst impacts of climate change that will require ambitious policy to support rapid decarbonization. Earthjustice’s longstanding track record in driving the renewable energy transition, improving our air quality and protecting lands brings a renewed spirit to Climate Week NYC at a time when we most need it.”
Earthjustice is using the power of the law to defend, strengthen, and enforce policies that move us towards zero emissions and 100% clean energy. That means ending the extraction, transport, and burning of fossil fuels that harm communities and our environment while pushing for climate solutions that center racial, economic, and environmental justice and reduce pollution in overburdened communities. Earthjustice and more than 290 environmental justice and national environmental organizations have signed on to the Equitable & Just National Climate Platform, which lays out a shared vision for climate solutions that advance economic, racial, and environmental justice.
Hosted annually by the Climate Group in association with the United Nations General Assembly, and in partnership with the COP26 and the City of New York, Climate Week NYC is a global opportunity to come together to accelerate climate action and assess progress ahead of COP26. The theme this year is “Getting it Done,” with a focus on fulfilling and increasing commitments made by businesses, governments, and organizations. The Policy Program will highlight policy solutions at all levels — local, state, and international — to accelerate a transition to net zero-emissions. Climate Week NYC is scheduled to take place September 20–26 with a combination of in-person events and virtual keynotes, panels, and other events.
