Waste is an unmetered utility. Data may come from invoices, hauler reports, audits, surveys, spreadsheets, sensors, site-level assessments (and more!), and it is often fragmented, incomplete, or difficult to compare. That makes it hard to understand what is actually happening across a waste program, where costs are coming from, and where better decisions could be made. This NYCW 2026 event will explore what becomes possible when waste data is organized, reviewed, and put into context. WATS co-founders Laura Rosenshine and Meredith Danberg Ficarelli will share how WATS approaches waste data management, followed by a lightning round of anonymized real-world examples showing different operational and reporting challenges. We’ll wrap with a group Q+A discussion and networking. The goal is to make the conversation practical: how better waste data can support clearer reporting, cost management, diversion strategies, service improvements, and more informed decision-making. Attendees can expect a grounded discussion of the problems waste teams face today and the kinds of insights that become available when the data is easier to trust and use.
