Park Slope Super Stoop is back for its second year. On Saturday, September 26, neighbors across Park Slope will transform their stoops into mini markets, giveaways, and gathering spots, creating one giant neighborhood-wide stoop sale. For visitors unfamiliar with the term, a "stoop" is the short flight of steps leading up to the entrance of a brownstone or townhouse, along with the small landing at the top. In Brooklyn, stoops are more than architecture. They're where neighbors sit and chat, kids play, musicians perform, and community happens in public view. The stoop is a Brooklyn cultural institution, a semi-private, semi-public space that has long served as the neighborhood's living room. Super Stoop Day is also a hands-on celebration of the circular economy in action. Every item that changes hands, from clothing to books to furniture to kitchenware, stays in use instead of ending up in a landfill, cutting waste and the carbon footprint tied to producing something new. It's climate action at the most local scale possible, happening stoop by stoop, with neighbors getting to know each other while giving their belongings a second life.
