Building Energy Exchange and the Swedish Energy Agency (SEA) are convening industry leaders to explore how industrial energy partnerships and innovative business models can transform waste heat into a valuable clean energy resource – and make thermal energy networks (TENs) financially viable investments. Presentations will feature two pioneering projects. In Sweden, the energy provider Adven operates a 4th Generation District Heating and Cooling (4GDHC) network in the city of Nynäshamn, which captures waste heat from the local Nynas refinery. In upstate New York, SUNY’s flagship campus at the University at Buffalo is developing a TEN that will utilize waste heat from the Empire AI supercomputing center to decarbonize campus buildings. A moderated discussion will examine the cross-sector collaborations, financing pathways, risk mitigation, and technical strategies behind these initiatives, exploring what each project can teach us about how to advance TENs in New York. Join us this Climate Week for this timely conversation and live Q&A, and network over coffee and small bites at the Exchange in downtown Manhattan!
