As artificial intelligence accelerates global demand for data centers and electricity, most markets face the same trade-off: new load competes with existing users, and someone pays for it — in price, in emissions, or in years spent waiting for a grid connection.
The Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade), in partnership with Fortescue, is hosting an afternoon event on how Australia is turning its rapid renewables build-out and falling wholesale electricity prices into data center growth that arrives with new generation attached — adding to the energy transition rather than straining it.
Because policy settings match large new loads with new supply, data center investment expands Australia's clean energy system rather than drawing on it. Alongside world-leading rooftop solar and fast-growing storage, that makes Australia a rare market where digital infrastructure and the energy transition are being built together — and where the ambition is to build and adopt AI, not simply host it. Fortescue's own build-out shows what that looks like in practice.
Join industry leaders, investors, policymakers and technology experts for an afternoon of insights, discussion and networking as part of the Australian Government's program during New York Climate Week 2026.
