Strengthening Integrated Fire Management Strategies with Fire Modeling Literacy

How can better understanding and application of fire modelling improve integrated fire management decisions before, during, and after wildfires? This invitation-only technical roundtable will bring together policymakers, scientists, practitioners, industry, and civil society to explore how applied fire modelling, data, and risk information can complement integrated fire management and support more effective wildfire prevention, preparedness, response, recovery, and long-term resilience. Building on recent regional work in Latin America and the Amazon, the discussion will identify key information gaps and implementation challenges, while exploring where better data and modelling could have the greatest impact across the wildfire risk cycle. Participants will also consider what policymakers and other non-technical decision-makers need to understand about fire models, including their capabilities, limitations, uncertainty, and appropriate uses. The conversation will identify opportunities for collaboration, capacity building, and practical applications of fire modelling across governments, communities, and vulnerable sectors. Insights will help inform the Global Wildfire Collective’s Fire Modelling Literacy Program and the development of a proposed policymaker training program.
