Overcoming the Gap Between Biomass CDR Potential and Reality

Clean Air Task Force (CATF) will host Overcoming the Gap Between Biomass CDR Potential and Reality, a roundtable discussion during New York Climate Week on September 22, 2026, from 3:30–5:00 p.m. ET at the New York Marriott Marquis. The event will convene a select group of stakeholders to examine the barriers preventing biomass carbon dioxide removal (CDR) from reaching its potential and identify solutions for scaling beneficial projects. Building a robust biomass CDR market ecosystem requires a more granular understanding of the challenges facing projects and how those barriers intersect. Through a focused, collaborative discussion, participants will explore key industry needs, challenges, and potential solutions that can support responsible growth. Insights from the conversation will help inform CATF’s roadmap for developing a supportive market ecosystem that advances beneficial biomass CDR value chains while meeting economic, environmental, and community goals. The roundtable will be held under the Chatham House Rule to encourage candid dialogue among participants. Attendees may use information shared during the discussion but may not reveal the identity or affiliation of individual speakers or participants. The event will also feature a live demonstration of CATF’s new interactive BiCRS Benchmark, a tool for assessing biomass carbon removal and storage protocols using key data from CATF’s report, Strengthening Biomass Carbon Removal and Storage (BiCRS) Protocols. Together, the discussion and demonstration will connect industry challenges with emerging tools and policy approaches, helping identify pathways to translate biomass CDR potential into responsible, scalable deployment while strengthening the broader market ecosystem for future projects and investment.
