Monarchs Watch: Pollinator Migration in a Changing Climate

How is climate change affecting the journeys of monarch butterflies and other pollinators? Join Marine Park Alliance for a conversation and hands-on community science experience with Mike Feller, former Chief Naturalist for NYC Parks, exploring the challenges facing pollinators in an era of climate change. Monarch butterflies undertake one of the most remarkable migrations in the natural world, but changing temperatures, weather patterns, habitat loss, and other climate-related pressures are reshaping their ability to survive and reproduce. We’ll discuss what scientists and community members are learning about pollinator migration, why declining populations matter for healthy ecosystems, and how creating and protecting pollinator habitat in New York City can help. Participants will also have the opportunity to help band monarch butterflies, contributing observations to a national community science effort tracking monarch migration and population trends. The program offers a chance to connect global climate change to the wildlife and habitats we can observe and protect right here in Brooklyn's largest park.
