As electricity demand continues to grow and renewable energy deployment accelerates, expanding, modernizing and strengthening power grids will be critical to ensuring that clean energy can be connected, transmitted and delivered reliably and affordably. Discussions will focus on the key policy, regulatory, financing and collaborative actions required to unlock investment in grid infrastructure. Participants will explore the main barriers currently constraining investment, including the financing challenges faced by grid projects, and consider practical approaches to improve access to capital, strengthen grid resilience and flexibility, and accelerate the development of electricity networks capable of supporting an increasingly electrified and renewable-based energy system. The roundtable will also provide an opportunity to present and discuss the preliminary analysis from the “Grid Financing Facility Hypothesis Testing” work. This analysis explores the potential need, role and design of a dedicated financing mechanism to help mobilize and channel capital towards grid infrastructure. Participants will be invited to provide feedback on the proposed approach, including key financing gaps, investment needs and potential mechanisms for mobilizing public and private capital.
