European Public Funding for FOAK: Lessons for American Companies

For many, it's not optional;it's existential. But expanding to Europe still means navigating a new market, a different set of partners, a distinct value chain, and new ways of accessing both public and private financing. On the public funding side, Climate Finance Solutions supported several applications to this past cycle of the EU Innovation Fund, the EU's primary grant program for large-scale FOAK deployments, including applications from US-based companies. Joined by Sublime Systems, HSBC, and CFS's Europe lead, we'll cover what it actually takes to build in Europe: how public funding shapes the capital stack, what European funders reward and penalize, and the practical questions, from partners to permitting, that decide whether a project is viable at all.
