Event Overview Kick off NYC Climate Week with an energetic, interactive evening designed to make embodied carbon literacy approachable, actionable, and fun! Attendees will earn 1.5 AIA LU/HSW continuing education credits. Embodied Carbon Game Night brings together architects, structural and MEP engineers, contractors, material manufacturers, building owners, and sustainability leaders across the AEC industry for 90 minutes of fast-paced competition, team collaboration, and high-impact networking. Instead of traditional lecture-style presentations, this happy hour game session challenges your knowledge of carbon reduction strategies, low-carbon materials, and circular design principles through hands-on gameplay. Whether you are attending your first Climate Week event or are a seasoned practitioner driving whole-building LCAs and Local Law 97 compliance, this session offers key industry takeaways in a highly engaging social setting. Agenda & Schedule 4:50 PM – 5:00 PM | Arrival, Check-In & Name Tags Collect your customized name tag and game materials, meet fellow attendees, and get settled in. 5:00 PM – 5:15 PM | Welcome & Introductions A brief introduction setting the stage for carbon reduction strategies and game rules. 5:15 PM – 6:20 PM | The Game Triad (25 minutes each) Game 1: Material Speed Dating Pass around physical material samples at speed stations. Teams have 5 minutes per sample to evaluate embodied carbon, toxicity, durability, circular reuse opportunities, and regional market availability. Game 2: Embodied Carbon "The Price is Right" (Team Trivia) Test your knowledge on global warming potential (GWP), material costs, recycled content, and real EPD data. Predict the carbon footprint of everyday building components—and enjoy seeing how wrong (or right!) you are. Game 3: Embodied Carbon Bingo (Interactive Networking) Connect across the room to complete your bingo card by finding peers with real-world experience across key sustainability categories. 6:20 PM – 6:30 PM | Wrap-Up, Winner Announcements & Prizes Key Takeaways & Learning Objectives (CE Credit - 1 LU) 1. Analyze Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), toxicity metrics, circularity potential, and bio-based or salvaged material alternatives to evaluate lower-carbon material selection options. 2. Assess the intersections between embodied carbon, operational efficiency, adaptive reuse, and financial mechanisms within New York City regulatory frameworks, such as Local Law 97. 3. Evaluate cross-disciplinary decarbonization strategies by engaging with architects, engineers, builders, suppliers, and students to address complex sustainability challenges. 4. Apply early-stage carbon reduction frameworks and client pitch strategies directly to active and upcoming design practices.
