Dune dreams & Peninsula Power in the Far Rockaways

Join us to wind down Climate Week NYC and celebrate community & care in the Far Rockaways, where the stretch of land between the ocean and the Bay is only a handful of blocks, and water is a daily reminder of both the beauty and vulnerability of the peninsula. Join us either for a morning bird walk with RISE and the NYC Plover Project or Climate Cafe NYC/Climate Imaginarium and Climate Psycology Alliance for a discussion on climate emotions, followed by a place-based scavenger hunt featuring audio recordings from stewards and community members with Holes in the Wall Collective, and hands-on artistic interventions from Camila A. Morales and Carine Gilbert at Beach 43rd Park on the Bay, managed by the Edgemere Alliance. We'll venture from the beach to the bay across Edgemere, see the still effected neighborhood in the wake of Sandy, and make our way to the Garden by the Bay, led by the incomparable Jackie Rogers and Laquetta Little who built this little piece of heaven for the community, and ending at the Beach 43rd st Park for a celebration. Snacks and refreshments will be provided but consider packing a lunch or patronizing a local spot to keep yourself satiated.
