Climate Action in Shipping – Progress towards shipping’s 2023 breakthrough report launch

The Climate Action in Shipping report tracks progress toward the target of ensuring at least 5% of international shipping fuel comes from scalable zero-emission sources by 2030, with an ambition to reach 10%. It surfaces real-world signals of change across five levers: technology and supply, finance, demand, policy, and civil society. The report's launch event will bring together stakeholders from across the maritime value chain, including industry leaders, policymakers, financial institutions, fuel producers, cargo owners, civil society representatives, and may include ministerial-level presenters. Against the backdrop of NYCW, the event will provide an opportunity to reflect on the progress to date, discuss remaining challenges, and identify the actions needed to accelerate the transition to scalable zero-emission fuels in shipping. A central thread running through the discussion is how the sector is navigating uncertainty amid the continued absence of a global regulatory framework. However, it is important to note that, despite no adoption yet, progress is underway through national and regional policy endeavours, green corridors, and other enabling structures — the event should showcase what's working while being honest about where the transition is still lagging.
