Join the Waterfront Alliance, New York Sea Grant, Cornell University's New York State Water Resources Institute, Shirley Chisholm State Park, and project partners for the unveiling of Submerse NY's Littoral / Litoral, a new public art installation by Camila A. Morales, Valé.
Located along the waterfront at Shirley Chisholm State Park, the installation invites visitors to explore the connections between water, community, and the changing shoreline of Jamaica Bay. Through art, storytelling, and place-based reflection, the project brings attention to the realities of flooding, sea level rise, and climate resilience while celebrating the ecological and cultural significance of this remarkable landscape.
At the opening celebration, attendees will have the opportunity to:
• Experience the installation and hear about the artist's vision
• Meet project partners and community leaders
• Learn about flood risk and resilience around Jamaica Bay
• Explore how art can inspire awareness, preparedness, and action
• Enjoy the beauty of New York City's largest state park and its waterfront vistas
Camila A. Morales's work encourages us to consider how water shapes our communities, histories, and futures, and how we can work together to build resilience in the face of a changing climate.
Whether you're an artist, environmental advocate, student, resident, or simply curious about the future of New York's waterfronts, we invite you to join us for this special celebration. Free and open to the public. Come experience art, connect with your community, and discover new ways of living with water.
