You've likely seen the statistics. Agroecology enterprises, so essential to transition our food systems to becoming climate resilient – both for adaptation and mitigation - are woefully under-capitalized. Their importance goes beyond the economic well being of farmers and processors to the healthy biodiverse food and ecosystem services they provide. Sadly, the market has had a difficult time investing in these essential contributions to our collective well-being. Let's change that.
This session explores a new finance instrument – an Agroecology Fund of Funds – designed to channel capital to loan funds that are committed to using the 13 principles of agroecology to guide their investments. These loan funds are managed by Indigenous Peoples, food producer cooperatives close to agroecology movements and organizations rooted in territories that have the expertise, patience and flexibility to work with emerging and existing agroecology enterprises.
Recalibrating capital to advance agroecology is no simple task otherwise we would have cracked this nut already! You can help. You are invited to a session to explore initial ideas for fund design, guided by examples of inspirational funds that move the needle on agroecology while they provide beneficial returns to farmers and the climate.
