We know methane reduction is one of the fastest levers to slow near-term warming, but the conversation has evolved. Awareness alone is not enough;it needs to lead to action. Governments and investors are responding to methane’s tangible economic, energy, and security risks, from rising energy costs to regulatory exposure and investment risks. As national leadership fluctuates, this session will showcase how subnational governments are turning pledges into measurable outcomes, moving from ambition to delivery. Initiatives like the Subnational Methane Action Coalition (SMAC) demonstrate what effective methane mitigation looks like, and how it can scale impact to 2030. Bringing together subnational leaders, funders, and technical experts, the discussion will explore what drives success, and where barriers remain.
