Is the strait of Hormuz open? Every morning, this is a main topic on the news;how will our energy system be affected by the geopolitical realities of today? But there is a different way. Volatility in global energy markets is strengthening the case for homegrown energy, built on renewables, stable pricing, and local ownership. This roundtable therefore focuses on how momentum at state and city level, combined with private investment, can accelerate the transformation of the energy system and deliver secure, independent energy supply at stable, low prices. The purpose is to highlight the benefits of homegrown energy and how to mobilise more private capital to the investments. Transitioning energy systems, Denmark offers a relevant reference point. After the oil crisis of the 1970s, the country moved from import dependency of +99% to an energy system and a grid based on +60% homegrown renewables, with comparably stable and low energy prices through the current energy crisis.
