Economy and finance ministries and planning authorities in climate-vulnerable countries face a structural evidence problem: physical climate projections describe hazards in meteorological terms but do not speak the language of fiscal policy, budget allocation, or investment planning. Without estimates of GDP impact, employment effects, and avoided losses expressed in economic terms, adaptation investments compete at a structural disadvantage against immediate development priorities. How can climate economy modelling address this evidence gap on economic benefits of climate adaptation and resilience investments? The event will bring together international initiatives that support knowledge transfer on climate economy modelling enabling climate-sensitive development planning. A panel of experts will share lessons learnt on how to make climate economic modelling available to decision-makers in different country settings. An open exchange will explore the potential to provide evidence that can unlock the economic opportunities inherent to climate-resilient policy and financing.
