This Climate Week, join LESEC at East River Park for a day of giving back to our community, enjoying our local greenspace, and learning about climate resilience, right in a park that knows what climate change means firsthand. East River Park was hit hard by Superstorm Sandy in 2012, and it's now being rebuilt as part of a major coastal resiliency project designed to protect the Lower East Side from future flooding. The park you'll be spending the day in is quite literally adapting in real time, with new elevations, updated drainage, and design choices meant to withstand storms that are only expected to get stronger. We'll spend the day weeding and caring for the park's green spaces while learning more about that transformation: what's changed, what's coming, and how a neighborhood park can also serve as frontline climate infrastructure.
