Climate technologies are evolving rapidly, creating new opportunities for cities and communities to better understand climate risk, prioritize investments, and strengthen resilience to flooding, extreme heat, wildfire, and other hazards. Advances in AI, climate modeling, and decision-support can help turn growing volumes of climate data into more actionable information, but technology alone cannot deliver resilience. These approaches also raise important questions about accessibility, cost, social equity, and how effectively they reflect community knowledge and priorities. This Climate Week NYC event will highlight emerging approaches already being applied in practice: FloodNet, a network of hyperlocal flood sensors in NYC;ClimateIQ, an AI-powered climate risk platform supporting under-resourced cities;ICF and Fathom’s next-generation flood maps for the Washington DC metro area, and Transitions Research’s People's Urban Living Lab (PULL) based in India. Using these projects as examples, the panel will examine what it takes to translate emerging technologies into meaningful resilience at scale, including questions of trust, community knowledge, implementation barriers, and public-private collaboration.
