Governments are the world's largest cement buyers — which makes public procurement one of the most powerful, under-used levers for cleaner industry. On September 23, Industrious Labs debuts a practical framework for advancing low-carbon procurement in the Global South, with a panel bringing together the people positioned to act on it. Hear directly from stakeholders across the Global South — the policymakers, practitioners, and industry voices whose lived experience is shaping what low-carbon procurement looks like in practice.
By the end of the session, participants will:
- Better understand how public procurement can serve as an industrial policy tool to accelerate low-carbon cement and concrete markets in emerging markets and developing economies.
- Leave with a practical framework of five actionable strategies that governments can adapt to their own institutional and market contexts.
- Gain insights from real-world experiences across Africa, Asia, and Latin America, including common implementation barriers and successful approaches.
- Identify concrete opportunities to advance procurement reform through standards modernization, market development, institutional coordination, and stakeholder engagement.
- Build new relationships with peers across government, industry, development finance, and civil society to accelerate implementation beyond Climate Week.
- Be invited to contribute to and participate in an ongoing international community of practice focused on low-carbon procurement and industrial decarbonization.
