Autonomous vehicles are among the first forms of physical AI beginning to reach real-world scale, already reshaping how people move through cities. Autonomous ride-hail is expanding into a true commercial transportation service, extending the reach of existing networks, and creating new possibilities for cleaner, more reliable, and accessible mobility. Reaching city scale, however, will require more than continued advances in vehicles, software, and AI. Cities and industry must also deliver the land, power, permitting, and infrastructure networks needed to support fleets that run continuously and serve thousands of passengers every day. AV fleet hubs are central to building that infrastructure layer — the power, charging and operating capacity that let autonomous fleets run reliably at the scale cities will need. This opening transportation session will ask: How is autonomous ride-hail — one of the first large-scale applications of physical AI — already changing urban transportation, and what changes as it reaches commercial scale? What infrastructure networks are needed to support fleets that run continuously across a city? How can cities, utilities and industry address the land, power and permitting challenges that could constrain growth?
