Battery Park City Composting Tour

Battery Park City Authority has a long-standing, successful composting program. In 2018, BPCA composted over 20,000 lbs of food and plant waste. As part of Climate Week NYC, join us for a tour of our composting program and see how we’re diverting this waste stream from the landfill. This session will feature a world premiere of the short documentary film “Stories from the Shore: Shellfish Growers Changing the Game on Climate” followed by a panel discussion with growers featured in the movie and a reception. “Stories from the Shore” documents the very personal stories of shellfish business owners from the East, West and Gulf coasts, their experience with climate change, and their motivation to take action. The film is a product of the Shellfish Growers Climate Coalition, a project led by the Nature Conservancy in concert with 120+ business owners from 20 states.

Peace Boat’s Ocean and Climate Youth Ambassador Program invites young leaders from small island states on the front line of climate change and ocean degradation to join Peace Boat’s Global Voyages. Launched in 2017, at the UN Ocean Conference and an endorsed event of the Fijian Presidency of COP23, the program brings together young leaders from the Pacific, Indian Ocean and the Caribbean to travel onboard Peace Boat’s ship through Europe and to the United Nations in New York engaging with government and civil society representatives.

EverGreening the Earth is a global campaign to overcome the climate crisis while alleviating poverty and hunger, and caring for the land. It aims to capture and store in the landscape 20 billion tons of CO2 annually by 2050. Sectoral leaders will be gathering at this press conference to share how the campaign will be supported and its objectives delivered. The campaign is being launched by the Global EverGreening Alliance, with more than twenty-five of its member organizations, including many of the largest development NGOs and conservation NGOs working around the world.
