Climate Week NYC is returning in September 2021

21st April 2021 3 min read

Climate Group has today announced that Climate Week NYC will be taking place on September 20-26, 2021.

Climate Week NYC 2021 marks a significant milestone in a major climate calendar year. Harnessing the collective power of governments, businesses, civil society, and the public, this global event centered in New York City will set the stage for new and noteworthy climate commitments. The ripple effects of the events, initiatives and decisions will likely be felt well into the Climate Decade.

Information about the program of events, speakers, delegates, and launch video can be found on the new Climate Week NYC website. With a focus on “Getting It Done”, the platform provides the ideal opportunity for stakeholders to collaborate and engage in climate conversations and pursue climate solutions. Event themes include, but are not limited to, the built environment, the clean energy revolution, heavy industry (e.g. cement and steel), the global food system, environmental justice, the transportation system, finance and the green economic recovery, sustainable living and lifestyle shifts, nature and ecosystems, and the importance of policy in accelerating and supporting climate action. The link to register events is now live on the Climate Week NYC website.

Climate Group will launch a virtual platform that will host all major Climate Week NYC events and will livestream them to the public. This will ensure that many more businesses, citizens and politicians around the world will be able to join irrespective of any travel restrictions in place. In a significant year of climate ambition, Climate Week NYC will shine a spotlight on the participation of the US and international parties as part of the extensive events program.

Climate Week NYC is run in partnership with the United Nations and the City of New York. Last year, over 500 events took place around the world as part of the official program, which brought together political announcements, business leadership events, and grassroots activity.

Helen Clarkson, CEO of the Climate Group, commented:

“Climate Week NYC is an extraordinary platform that brings together world leaders, businesses, and civil society every year to showcase ambitious climate action and innovative solutions, that are delivering on net zero commitments.

“The 2020s are the Climate Decade: we must halve emissions by 2030. The work we do in the next few years is critical to getting the world to net zero by 2050, with greater prosperity for all. We need leaders to show bravery and confidence to set the path out of COVID-19, to take hard decisions which will deliver a green recovery that doesn’t trade off jobs and emissions reductions, but gives people both.

“Long-term commitments are vital, but they’re not enough. We need to see action now, and Climate Week NYC is a vital moment to check in on the action that’s already happening, and inspire others to do more”.

Badar Khan, President of National Grid, US, said:

“Climate Week NYC is where the conversations happen that lead to important climate action. National Grid is committed to finding solutions for cleaning up the energy sector and beyond, but we can only do that by working with our partners. We are attending Climate Week NYC this year to share ideas with businesses, governments, and organizations about what needs to happen to combat one of the greatest threats of our lifetime.”
