New York City, September 17 - On September 20, the biggest Climate Week NYC in history will kick off in the City of New York, hosted by international nonprofit Climate Group. This year sees a record number of registered Climate Week NYC events taking place across the city.
The flagship events of the week, the Opening Ceremony and The Hub Live, will feature speakers such as Prime Minister of Australia The Hon. Anthony Albanese MP, Her Excellency Kristrún Frostadóttir, Prime Minister of Iceland, and Dr Fatih Birol, Executive Director of the International Energy Agency.
In addition, the city will host record numbers of registered events across town, making Climate Week NYC the leading, most dynamic climate event on the planet. Events range from the large-scale Nest Climate Campus at the Javitz Center and Solutions House to the local, including Wildlife Trivia and a City Harvest Food Bank repack.
After a summer of wildfires across Europe and North America, heatwaves, flooding, the devastating glacier collapse in Nepal, and El Niño ramping up, the impacts of climate change are starkly felt worldwide.
“Yet despite all these devastating events, I’ve not seen this level of greenhushing before. Many companies tell us they will be here, but not very visibly. But after a summer like this when we saw so much tragedy driven by climate change, this is the time to be loud”, said CEO Helen Clarkson OBE of Climate Group. “The world is standing on the edge of the abyss, and people are seeking change. That’s why they join Climate Week NYC - they have the energy to drive impact and action, and they want governments and businesses to do the same.”
Climate Group also hosts a High-Level Dialogue of the Global Renewables Summit, together with Fortescue and the Global Renewables Alliance. It brings together heads of state, ministers, CEOs, investors and international organisations to accelerate renewable-powered electrification. Participants include Taye Atske Selassie, President of Ethiopia, and Teresa Ribera, Executive Vice-President for a Clean, Just and Competitive Transition of the European Commission.
The focus for Climate Week 2026 is on real-world impact: the clean electrification of economies, the economic case for renewables, removing barriers, and modernizing regulations, grids and systems. The themes of Climate Week are aligned with the UN’s Global Climate Action Agenda (GCAA) and the focus of COP31, shaping the last big climate moment before the UN-led meeting in Türkiye.
Climate Group has hosted Climate Week NYC alongside the UN General Assembly every year since 2009. Combined, its events draw hundreds of world leaders and thousands of representatives from business, academia, non-profits, arts and culture, and community-led organizations to NYC.
