New York City, September 16 - Prime Minister of Australia The Hon. Anthony Albanese MP will give this year’s opening keynote speech of Climate Week NYC, on Monday September 21 in New York City.
Prime Minister Albanese will deliver his speech at the start of the Opening Ceremony of Climate Week NYC. The annual climate event follows recent record-breaking heatwaves, wildfires, floods, and the reality that UNEP has confirmed the science shows we will overshoot 1.5 degrees of global warming this decade.
In his speech, Prime Minister Albanese will explain that to meet these challenges, it’s essential we galvanise global efforts towards effective, practical action to address the economic, social and national security impacts of climate change in a warming world.
As Australia works with the Pacific to host a Pre-COP Leaders’ event ahead of COP31, Prime Minister Albanese will speak to the importance of tailoring solutions to the realities facing some of the most climate vulnerable countries in the world, the vital importance of all countries to accelerate the transition to renewables, and the security and economic benefits that it can deliver.
