Initiatives to deliver our vision: Net-zero, climate-resilient development

Our Vision is for all LDCs to be on climate-resilient development pathways by 2030 and deliver net-zero emissions by 2050 to ensure our societies and ecosystems thrive.

Our Vision unites and draws on the knowledge, resources and work of three initiatives developed by the LDC Group to support this transition: the LDC Initiative for Effective Adaptation and Resilience (LIFE-AR); the LDC Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Initiative for Sustainable Development (LDC REEEI); and the LDCs Universities Consortium on Climate Change (LUCCC). These initiatives focus on several key areas central to LDCs including access to renewable energy, capacity building in climate research, and development of long-term strategies in effective adaptation, resilience and development.

The world has changed since the LDC Group launched its Vision. While the climate crisis continues to endanger our people, the new challenge of COVID-19 has impacted our ability to pursue these initiatives. During this event, the panellists will review progress: the lessons we have learned and the challenges we face. We will look ahead to the climate-resilient future and the support needed to achieve this goal.
Information about the host:

The Least Developed Countries (LDC) Group has a membership of 47 low-income countries across Africa, Asia and the Caribbean. These countries are confronted with severe structural impediments to sustainable development, have low levels of human assets and are highly vulnerable to economic and environmental shocks. The Group is led by Malawi at the Global Coordination Bureau and by Bhutan at the UN climate change negotiations.
