Enhanced ambition from countries is urgently needed to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement. Climate action from nature, or natural climate solutions, including forests, agriculture and grasslands, and coastal wetlands, is underrepresented in existing nationally determined contributions (NDCs). To harness the potential of natural climate solutions, NDCs should integrate these important climate actions so that they may be prioritized for implementation and support. As countries update their NDCs for the post-2020 implementation period, we have published a Guide for Including Nature in NDCs to give a quick reference guide to the resources available to countries as they consider how they might incorporate natural climate solutions.
This panel discussion event will review the main take-aways of the Guide, which includes a general checklist to facilitate adherence to the Paris Rulebook, sector-specific guidance, and examples from NDCs. The panelists will identify the key issues to consider in utilizing natural climate solutions and indicate where countries can find further guidance. The event will also invite a conversation with audience about additional resources on natural climate solutions to complement the Guide and assist countries as they revise their NDCs. We aim to raise awareness of the Guide and other tools for governments, policy-makers, development partners, and non-profits – to ensure the power of nature is fully captured in NDCs and their implementation.
This event is part of the Food, Land and Nature-Based Solutions program of Climate Week NYC.
