Heatsmart Brooklyn Block Party

Heatsmart Brooklyn Block Party

A Block Party is a celebration of common goals by members of a diverse community. Heatsmart Brooklyn believes local and global Climate Week NYC participants share a common goal: to promote the transition of our cities so we can all live, work, and play in energy-efficient buildings.

The Heatsmart Block Party will unite local residents and visiting guests to celebrate caring for our planet and learning how to raise our engagement in protecting our climate. The event will feature education and job opportunities, self-guided tours of sustainable homes and businesses (including self-guided tours of homes and businesses where owners have reduced their carbon footprint, and an amazing block party, where Brooklynites will kick-off Climate Week with live music, dancing, and great food.

Join us at this highly interactive event to learn how our climate action can also improve comfort and generate economic development. Marcy Plaza will serve as the campaign launch pad on Sunday, September 22, 2019, coinciding with the start of Climate Week NYC 2019.

Heatsmart Brooklyn is a community-based campaign to encourage replacement of conventional heating and cooling equipment with air-source heat pump systems, and to improve building envelopes. Sponsored by NYSERDA and the Office of the Brooklyn Borough President, the campaign is set to launch in areas located in Con Edison’s Target Zone, where power supply is inadequate at peak demand periods on the hottest days of the year. In the coming months, Heatsmart will help property and business owners assess their options for space heating and cooling systems.

This event is part of the Youth and Climate Activism program of Climate Week NYC.
