We stand at a critical and unique moment in history. With a decade left to prevent a climate catastrophe, we need to use all of the tools we have today to reduce global emissions as quickly as possible. Forests, with their natural ability to sequester and store carbon, offer about a quarter of the solution, but they’re being destroyed at an unprecedented rate. Once they’re gone, they’re gone, jeopardizing irreplaceable biodiversity and the livelihoods of over a billion people. This simply cannot continue if we’re to have any chance of passing a planet that is habitable to future generations.
Efforts to stop deforestation and rebuild the world’s lungs have been split over the past decade, between a donor government-funded results-based payment model, and a private sector-run voluntary market. This split has led to years of frustration and missed opportunities. Emergent brings the two tracks together, creating a public-private-philanthropic partnership to safeguard tropical forests.
Join us to learn how we’re bringing philanthropies, governments, nonprofits and corporations together to channel their efforts toward a single carbon market that maximizes finance for forest protection. We’ll introduce you to our Private Sector Leaders’ Roundtable, our government and philanthropic partners, and invite you to come along as we chart a bold new course for forest conservation, going beyond incremental change, creating better outcomes for forests and building a better world for humanity and nature alike.
Emergent is a non-profit organization with the sole mission of accelerating the speed and scale of tropical forest conservation to combat the climate crisis. With an international team of world-class climate experts and the backing of the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), the Rockefeller Foundation, and the Norwegian government’s International Climate and Forest Initiative (NICFI), Emergent is forging a path to channel maximum funding to end tropical deforestation before it’s too late.
