The causes and harms from climate change are inextricably entwined with systemic racism. It is no accident that the best predictor for where fossil fuel emitting power plants are located is proximity to communities of color, especially to Black neighborhoods. At the same time, solutions to climate change must advance equity and center the populations most affected by climate impacts in their design or they will be unsustainable.
This panel will feature Black leaders from state and local government, and community anchor institutions to discuss how the pursuit of racial and climate justice are linked, how they became environmental leaders, and what solutions they are pursuing and see as promising for addressing the climate crisis and advancing equity and inclusion.
