UN Secretary-General António Guterres has made “Nature-Based Solutions” and food systems one of several top priorities in need of transformative action to stem the crisis on climate change. It’s time to gain deeper insight into how global food systems are connected to the root causes of climate change and to work together to realize the promise of food system-based solutions. We need to urgently shift from simply reforming agricultural production to a broader perspective in order to bring about real, sustainable, system-wide transformation.
This daylong interactive event primarily targets globally influential stakeholders in the UN and climate communities that will be at Climate Week NYC. The event will feature keynote speeches from Professor David Nabarro, co-facilitator of the Nature-Based Solutions coalition of the UN Climate Action Summit, Dr. Cynthia Rosenzweig, Coordinating Lead Author of the IPCC Climate Change and Land Report and Karen Ross, Secretary for the California Department of Food & Agriculture.
The event will also include a presentation of a beta-version of a global policy simulator of climate and food systems and a panel of diverse stakeholder perspectives on opportunities and strategies to unite the climate and food system transformation agendas.
The Global Alliance for the Future of Food is an alliance of 26 philanthropic foundations, which invests in projects on all five continents. The Global Alliance works with its members and with others to transform global food systems.
