BT is one of the world's leading communications services companies. We serve the need of our customers in the UK and in 180 countries worldwide. In October 2018, we pledged to become a net zero carbon emissions business by 2045. This extends our science based target following a 1.5 degree C pathway to reduce the carbon emissions intensity of our operations by 87% by 2030 against a 2016/17 baseline. We have already cut the carbon emissions intensity of our operations by 80% since 1996.
Renewable energy is at the heart of our environmental strategy and in the UK 100% of the electricity we purchase directly is from renewable sources. By 2020, we're aiming to use 100% renewable electricity worldwide, where markets allow.
We are also partnering with our suppliers to target a 29% reduction in emissions from our supply chain by 2030 (from 2016/17 levels). Through our energy efficiency program, we have saved over £298m since 2009/10. And we made £5.5bn - 24.3% of our revenue - in 2018/19 from products and services that enable customers to cut their carbon emissions. This means we helped our customers save 11.7m tonnes of carbon. That's the equivalent of the carbon emissions of nearly 3 million UK households.
