Stiftung Mercator is a German private and independent foundation, active both nationally and internationally. Amongst other objectives, the foundation concentrates on driving forward climate change mitigation by supporting the reduction of Germany’s greenhouse gas emissions.
Stiftung Mercator is funding the Energy Transition Platform. The Platform was launched in 2016 by The Climate Group and Stiftung Mercator, alongside the initiative’s lead government North Rhine-Westphalia. The Energy Transition Platform connects 11 highly industrialized, carbon intensive states and regions, to enable in-depth global peer learning and to provide the support regional governments need to accelerate the low carbon energy transition. Through supporting the Energy Transition Platform, Stiftung Mercator has helped to build a global network of government peers, facilitate the adoption of emerging innovative policy models by states and regions and demonstrate the need for up-scaled action at the national and international level.
