Tcktcktck Campaign partners with Climate Week NYC

New York, NY – Today the tcktcktck campaign joined The Climate Group, the United Nations, the UN Foundation, the City of New York and Carbon Disclosure Project as an official Partner of Climate Week NYC, a program of city-wide events to be held the week of September 20, 2009 that are designed to demonstrate widespread international and domestic support for an ambitious, fair and binding international climate change treaty.

The tcktcktck campaign is an online and offline mobilization which brings together an unprecedented alliance of faith groups, non-governmental organizations, trade unions and individuals at this crucial time to call for a new international climate change treaty at the UN Conference of the Parties in Copenhagen, Denmark in December 2009.

Tcktcktck calls upon citizens to make their voices heard to world leaders gathering in New York on September 22nd by visiting www.tcktcktck.org and signing the tcktcktck campaign pledge to help stop the dangerous effects of global climate change now.

Kumi Naidoo, tcktcktck chairperson: “Climate Week NYC is a key moment for the tcktcktck campaign as we look towards Copenhagen in December.  We look forward to working with our partners in demonstrating the overwhelming power of citizen action to convince heads of state and global decision-makers gathering in New York to commit themselves towards an ambitious, fair and binding deal on climate action. The tcktcktck campaign needs world leaders to know that inaction is affecting the lives of people and communities around the globe right now, the world cannot wait any longer, time is running out.”

Steve Howard, CEO, The Climate Group: “Taking place seventy days before the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, Climate Week NYC will underscore the urgency for a global deal on climate change. We seek to advance the important dialogue between our world leaders, business leaders and citizens to secure a cleaner, greener and more prosperous future. As Secretariat of Climate Week NYC, The Climate Group is proud to partner with the tcktcktck campaign to demonstrate the critical role civil society is playing in the effort to secure a global deal in Copenhagen.”

Climate Week NYC coincides with the United Nations General Assembly meeting and a day-long Climate Change Summit being organized by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Tuesday, September 22nd.  With more than 100 heads of state and government expected in attendance, the summit will be the largest-ever gathering of heads of state focused exclusively on climate change.

During Climate Week NYC, tcktcktck partner organizations will launch a massive citizen engagement both on and off line to add to the existing Climate Week NYC partner and affiliate events.  These events from large scale public gatherings to smaller, more policy-focused initiatives will be held to demonstrate to visiting heads of state the worldwide support for an ambitious, fair and binding international climate change treaty.
