Teachers and students around the world have a unique opportunity to increase the impact of this week by participating in Climate Week NY°C’s “Cool Your School” initiative.  Simply by bringing climate change curriculum into classrooms and engaging students in action, schools can support this call for global climate action.

    The week of September 21st is Climate Week. World leaders will meet at the UN to address the urgent need for action. This week is also Advertising Week in NY. In recognition of the need to raise awareness & take action during these coincident gatherings, ISC's Sustainable Advertising Partnership & NYU’s Graphic Communications Management & Technology Program are hosting a colloquium to discuss ways that advertising, media & brand leaders can support world leaders by identifying, measuring & reducing the greenhouse gas emissions associated with the supply chains used to deliver trillions of pages & pixels of advertising each year.
    Topics to be addressed:
    * How big is the combined carbon footprint of the hundreds of billions of dollars spent each year on print, broadcast, out of home and digital media advertising?
    * What is the business case for assessing and managing the carbon footprint associated with print and digital media ad campaigns?
    * How can brand leaders and their advertising media supply chain partners take action to support world leaders seeking to "Seal The Deal" in Copenhagen

  • Carbon Disclosure Project Global Forum

    The CDP Global Forum will unveil information from the world’s largest companies on their greenhouse gas emissions and climate change strategies.  Reports detailing the climate change actions of the Global 500 and S&P 500 companies will be released at this event, where keynote speakers include Ralph Izzo, CEO of Public Service Enterprise Group, Bob Moritz, Chairman of PricewaterhouseCoopers, Brian Brille, Global Investment Banking Executive of Bank of America/Merrill Lynch, and Abyd Karmali, Global Head of Carbon Markets of Bank of America/Merrill Lynch. They will discuss the importance of high quality climate change information to help navigate businesses through the economic downturn and the run up to a global deal in Copenhagen.

    Representatives of diverse religious traditions will gather on September 21, the International Day of Peace, to reflect in story, song, prayer and voice about humanity’s collective response to the climate crisis. Organized by Religions for Peace, Committee of Religious NGOs at the United Nations, The Office of the Chaplaincy, NY Interfaith Power & Light in cooperation with the Global Campaign for Climate Action (GCCA), the gathering will have a global perspective, with voices from faith communities around the world, as represented by the delegations of religious leaders coming to New York. This multi-religious gathering will call on all faith communities to join the religious leaders in their commitment and also urge the world leaders to take urgent action to stop and reverse the adverse impact of climate change.

  • Team Earth Event to Showcase Urgency of Protecting Tropical Forests with Harrison Ford and President Jagdeo

    Harrison Ford, an avid environmental activist, convenes with Team Earth partners and President Jagdeo of Guyana on Monday, Sept 21 to garner support on forest protection from the UN General Assembly and in the Copenhagen Climate Council this December.
    Dell, Harrah’s, SC Johnson, Starbucks and Wrigley step forth as founding partners to announce “Team Earth,” a global sustainability movement.

    President Bharat Jagdeo – whose extraordinary vision is set to make Guyana one of the most environmentally progressive nations on earth - will make an impassioned call to world leaders attending the UN General Assembly to support plans to fund the protection of tropical forests as a means to tackle climate change. President Jagdeo will also outline his plans to build Guyana’s economic development around the preservation of its vast forests.

    On September 21st, TckTckTck partners along with thousands of individuals will sound the Global Wake Up Call in cities, towns and villages around the world. We need to wake up world leaders to the crisis of climate change by making noise and ringing bells and showing them that the world is ready for a bold climate deal.
    Avaaz has developed an online toolkit that explains how individuals can get involved with the Global Wake Up call. This is open for any organization to copy and adapt to send out to its supporters to get them working on events for the 21st September.
    We can only stop climate change if we all pull together and show world leaders that we demand action. Time is running out.

  • The Age of Stupid Global Premiere, live from New York

    The world’s biggest and greenest live film premiere. At 7.30pm on Monday 21st September, A-list celebrities will walk the green carpet to our solar-powered cinema tent in downtown Manhattan. Following the screening of The Age of Stupid, there will be a panel discussion featuring Kofi Annan, Mary Robinson, Gillian Anderson, star of the film Pete Postlethwaite and the film’s director Franny Armstrong. There will be live music from Radiohead’s Thom Yorke, plus live satellite links to scientists in the Indonesian rainforests and at the melting glaciers in the Himalayas which  provide drinking water for hundreds of millions of people in India  and Bangladesh.  A group of children will speak from the very room in Copenhagen in which all our futures will be decided at the UN climate summit in December.
