Today, Saturday 16th June 2018, Climate Week NYC is launching its 100-day countdown. The event, which is the largest climate week in the world, launches on 24 September 2018, with an Opening Ceremony to be held at the The Times Center, in Manhattan. Climate Week NYC is endorsed by the UN, and coincides with the United Nations General Assembly. Previous speakers at our Opening Ceremony include Tim Cook, Tony Blair, Christiana Figureres and California Governor Jerry Brown.
Climate Week NYC will host many events around New York City from 24 – 30 September. In addition to sustainability leaders and CEOs from some of the world’s largest organizations, the week will also bring together political leaders, with significant announcements and commitments anticipated to attract global attention.
Helen Clarkson, Chief Executive of The Climate Group, commented: “Climate Week NYC is about taking the high level commitments made by policy makers and industry leaders and applying them, at every level, into the real world. By bringing together the most influential figures delivering climate action, alongside hundreds of events that seek to engage the public and business communities, we will be able to translate the objectives of the Paris Agreement into something that we can all play a part in delivering. This is all about stepping up and making things happen.
“This will be the place where business and government leaders come together to turn pledges into action, in order to keep warming well below 2 degrees Celsius. Bringing people together in New York, with its own strong record of delivering climate action, is of even greater importance against the backdrop of political uncertainty that we now see on this issue from the US Federal Government. This is a great opportunity to show the strength of the community that are saying ‘We Are Still In.’”
Registration has now opened for organizations, businesses and community groups to register official Climate Week NYC events. Last year over 140 events took place across the week and this year it is expected that even more New Yorkers will take part.

NEW YORK: Christiana Figueres, Former Executive Secretary of the UNFCCC and Global Ambassador for the Under2 Coalition, says the 10th Anniversary of Climate Week NYC and the Global Climate Action Summit in California will work together to help 2018 mark a necessary "dramatic shift in the decarbonization of the global economy", during an exclusive interview with The Climate Group.
During the video interview, Christiana Figueres explains the crucial complementary roles the two summits will play in accelerating global climate action. She outlines how the Global Climate Summit will offer a "huge display of what is possible under climate mitigation and adaptation measures and actions", and that Climate Week NYC – taking place just days later – has the opportunity to "harvest everything that has been put on the table in the California Summit, and frankly take it to the next level."
